The Water Cycle – infographic poster

An 3D isometric landscape, illustrating from the deeps of the sea to the tops mountains.

The brief was to create an illustration for an A2 poster that would explain the water cycle – evaporation, condensation, precipitation – to an audience of 11-14 year old GCSE science students in a simple but engaging way.

After discussion with the editorial team it was decided an isometric illustration of a landscape was the best way to include all the required elements: sun, ocean, clouds, rain, mountains, trees and underground area. And due to the the age group it was aimed at, a fairly simple, though not-quite-cartoonish style was most appropriate.

I collaborated closely with the design team to work out through a series of roughs how the illustrative and text elements would work together on the page. I then draw each element of my isometric illustrations using Adobe Illustrator before painting over the top with photoshop to add light and texture, nothing is created using 3D modelling software.
